How Dollar stores became America’s leading retailers

Global competition, loss of data and rising inflation push buyers to lower competitive prices. This is good news for dollar discounts which are growing faster than other retailers.

By 2020, there will be more than 34,000 stores across the United States. Popular chains include Dollar Tree and Family Dollar (both owned by Dollar Tree), Dollar General, 99 Cents Only Stores, and Five Top. The largest companies, Dollar General, Dollar Tree, and Family Dollar, account for almost half of all new retail stores in the United States.

But excellent growth cannot be without criticism. Protesters argued that opening new discount stores in impoverished communities prevents residents from accessing new products.
